Lavender Youth Recreation and Information Center (LYRIC)
LYRIC’s mission is to build community and inspire positive social change through education enhancement, career training, health promotion and leadership development with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQQ) youth, their families and allies of all races, classes, genders and abilities.
At the heart of LYRIC's programs is our goal to ensure that LGBTQQ youth (24 and under), especially low-income youth and youth of color, have the resources and supports they need to stabilize their lives and flourish in activities that build their healthy development.
To do this, LYRIC provides community building activities, paid internships and supports such as case management and counseling to LGBTQQ youth in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In September 2010, syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage created a YouTube video with his partner Terry Miller to inspire hope for young people facing harassment. In response to a number of students taking their own lives after being bullied in school, they wanted to create a personal way for supporters everywhere to tell LGBT youth that, yes, it does indeed get better.
Nine months later, the It Gets Better Project (TM) has turned into a worldwide movement, inspiring over 20,000 user-created videos viewed over 35 million times. To date, the project has received submissions from celebrities, organizations, activists, politicians and media personalities, including President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Adam Lambert, Anne Hathaway, Colin Farrell, Chris Colfer, Joe Jonas, Joel Madden, Ke$ha, Sarah Silverman, Tim Gunn, Ellen DeGeneres, Suze Orman, the staffs of The Gap, Google, Facebook, Pixar, the Broadway community, and many more. For us, every video changes a life. It doesn’t matter who makes it.
The website www.itgetsbetter.org is a place where young people who are lesbian, gay, bi, or trans can see how love and happiness can be a reality in their future. It’s a place where our straight allies can visit and support their friends and family members. It’s a place where people can share their stories, take the It Gets Better Project pledge, watch videos of love and support, and seek help through the Trevor Project, GLSEN and the ACLU LGBT Project.

Since 1995, One Family has been working to help destitute families who are victims of war. When the conflict in the Balkans was underway, One Family got involved by serving as a link between concerned people and businesses in Northern California and refugee families over there. We reached people in the small out-of-the-way villages and refugee camps that were not being helped by the larger aid organizations.
Since then One Family has expanded it’s efforts to include the needs of street children and impoverished families in Latin America. It has joined with local organizations to work on a Rural Poverty Project to help families in Northern California and it responded to two natural disasters by helping out in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the devastating 2005 earthquake in Pakistan.
